Silver Falls Creamery | The Herd

Family owned and operated, Silver Falls Creamery is located 12 miles east of Salem on Higway 22.

This farmstead dairy is a haven for Shawn Hanowell’s award winning herd of Nubians, Alpines and Toggenbergs.

Milk that is uniform in composition and free from objectionable flavor must be guided. With his lifetime of experience in dairy operations, vast knowledge of goats and his expertise in breeding, Dairy Manger, Shawn Hanowell dictates the composition and flavor of the cheese. Climatic changes play a role in the fat content of goats’ milk. To compensate for these changes, Shawn uses his understanding of grain and Eastern Oregon alfalfa to maintain the high quality of the milk’s uniformity all year round.

With Shawn’s lifetime experience with dairy operations coupled with his expertise in breeding, and his well managed herd, Silver Falls Creamery produces the highest grade quality milk for their ACS and ADGA award winning artisan cheese.
